Description

This course provides students with the tools necessary to meet the challenges of working as mining engineers and managers in an international setting.
At the end of this course, the students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:

  • Legal & political context of mining in an international location
  • Principles of Sustainable Development
  • Social & stakeholder impact analysis
  • Major issues associated with social/community impacts of mining internationally
  • The global impacts of mining coal, uranium, gold, copper and other significant commodities
  • Cross cultural management strategies
  • Identify the principle condition-based maintenance strategies used in the mining industry and critically evaluate their applicability to mining equipment;
  • Describe and define key maintenance performance indices, and appreciate the impact these have on mining operations.
